First Innovation Economics Workshop: Keynote by Prof. Tomasz Mickiewicz

WARSAW: The Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw is organizing the inaugural Innovation Economics Workshop. The special guest of the event is Professor Tomasz Mickiewicz from Aston University in Birmingham.

Innovation remains a formidable challenge across Europe, with the continent trailing significantly behind global leaders. The initiative by the Faculty of Economic Sciences to address this issue is therefore both timely and commendable.

What Does Juliusz Bolek Say About European Innovation?

“Innovation is currently one of the most important areas of global competition,” says Juliusz Bolek, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Institute of Business. “Innovation leaders invest enormous amounts in R&D. One might assume that the level of investment determines outcomes. However, the truth is that innovation funding must be strategically allocated. In Europe, this often isn’t the case—resources are largely wasted despite being spent in compliance with regulations, and that’s not enough,” Bolek asserts.

Purpose of the First Innovation Economics Workshop

The workshop aims to integrate Polish economists specializing in innovation-related topics. The first edition of the event will include a keynote lecture by Prof. Tomasz Mickiewicz and feature academic sessions discussing the implementation and funding of innovation projects, data access, and publishing in international journals.

Topics Covered

Organized by Prof. Andrzej Cieślik and Dr. Krzysztof Szczygielski, the workshop will include presentations on: innovation in businesses, technology and knowledge transfer, the creation and development of tech startups, convergence and absorption of technology, links between innovation and international trade, and regional perspectives on innovation.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:18 p.m. at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw, Długa Street 44/50, Warsaw.
